Asus has recently unveiled the full-sized Padfone E in its home country Taiwan. The tablet comes with mid-tier hardware specs and priced at about £340 off contract. Although there’s no word when the actual global roll out will occur; we could expect to see a UK launch in a few months.
Like other models in the Padfone family, the Padfone E also involves a standard smartphone that may slide into a tablet-sized docking station. When fully deployed, the Padfone E is a tablet with 10-inch (1280 x 800) display. Inside, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 1,3Mp front-facing camera, 1820mAh battery and 16GB of internal storage, all contained inside the 4.7-inch smartphone.
The tablet-shaped docking station also includes a 5000mAh battery; which could extend the overall operational time. Unfortunately, some details about the phone are not yet known and the company hasn’t told us about what Android version the device will be running. However, it is clear that Asus wants to push its offering in the smartphone-tablet hybrid market.
Recently, Asus has also unveiled the Padfone X, which offers a tablet-shaped docking station with Full HD resolution. The smartphone component of the Padfone X package offers Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and Zen UI on top of the Android 4.4 KitKat OS. It means that we could expect to see the Padfone E equipped with the same software configuration.
