Eldar Murtazin, the popular Russian blogger, has unveiled recently that Google will discontinue the Nexus tablet lineup next year. It will be replaced a new brand from the Play Edition lineup. Google has added various device models from different device manufacturers, such as Motorola Moto G, Sony Z Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One. So far, there’s only one Play Edition tablet, the LG G Pad 8.3.
These devices are equipped with clean version of Android OS, without bloatware or custom OEM user interface. However, the new software update doesn’t directly come from Google, but by manufacturers themselves. Meaning, the newest Android OS version reaches Nexus devices first, followed by Google Play Edition models later.
Murtazin has been quite accurate with his past mobile directions; although he also made a few mistakes. Without changes in naming convention, there will be name collision next year; between the 2015 Edition of Nexus 7 and the Nexus 7 smartphone. Other than revealing information about the possible demise of Nexus lineup, Murtazin also said that there will be cross-licensing patent deal between Google and Samsung. The South Korean company could benefit from Google’s patents and it will also secure hardware developments.
