The dominant PC chipmaker has introduced a new 10-inch tablet design aimed at schools. Called the “Intel Education Tablet”, it is reasonably equipped for education-centric device with 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2520 dual-core processor, 1GB or 2GB of RAM, rear/front-facing cameras, 32GB of internal storage and Intel GMA integrated GPU with support for 1080p video playback.
The tablet is based on Jelly Bean Android 4.2 OS and it is expected to deliver 12 hours of battery life. It comes with WiFi connectivity, but 3G data support is only optional. Last year, Intel also announced two other reference designs for 10-inch and 7-inch models, based on Intel Atom Z2460 and Z2420, respectively.
The new education-focused tablet design includes the ability to withstand short falls and some spillages. This could mean that we would see more rubber on the edges. It will include multiple educational apps and specific add-ons, such as temperature sensor probe and snap-on magnification tool; which could assist the learning process. These tablet accessories can be plugged into the audio jack. Most tablets aimed for students in the UK are typically quite affordable; but Intel didn’t reveal the possible price range for its new design.
