More Low-Cost Android Tablets With Intel Chips Will Arrive to the UK This Year

Android TabletsPractically all major tech companies have big ambitions for 2014 and Intel is included. The chipmaker has mature 64-bit platforms in the PC market and it plans to bring the capability to the mobile industry later this year.

Intel knows that it needs to have a solid presence in the mobile market to compensate for the declining PC market. Offering 64-bit technology is one good way to make a mark. Android already inherits 64-bit support from Linux and Intel’s new chip could scale the platform more efficiently to 64-bit environment.

It isn’t clear how Intel will make that happen, we will be a more heated race to get there. Apple first shocked the mobile world with its A7 64-bit processor and other mobile ship makers are quick to chime in. Samsung first responded by unveiling plans for a 64-bit Exynos processor and we can expect to see the first Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with the same technology later this year. Intel stated months ago that it will get its silicon into entry-level Android devices and $100 or £75 models are a target.

As revealed by DigiTimes a few days ago, Intel’s specifications for Android tablets include the Atom Bay Trail processor for 7-inch models ranging from $99 to $120 (£75 to £90). Tablets with between 7- and 8-inch display sizes will have between $149 and $199 (£90 to £125). The 10-inch models could be priced at around $249 (£150) or more.
